Andarine (S-4, GTx-007): what the evidence says
At a glance
What it is: Caution Not a peptide. Andarine (S-4, development code GTx-007) is an oral non-steroidal SARM, a small molecule, not an amino-acid chain. It is listed here only because it is sold alongside research peptides. R1 No human trial results have been published, and why development stopped could not be confirmed. UNVERIFIED
What the evidence says: Unknown no published human trial was found on PubMed or ClinicalTrials.gov (searched Oct 27, 2026). Animal in castrated rats it restored muscle mass and strength and protected bone, with weaker effects on the prostate. R2
Biggest risks: unknown in controlled human studies. Vision changes (a yellow tint, slow adjustment to the dark) are widely described by users, but no peer-reviewed source was found. UNVERIFIED SARMs as a class are linked to liver injury and testosterone suppression; FDA warns against them; banned in sport. R3, R4, R5, R6

About the evidence: everything known about andarine's effects comes from rats. Products sold under the name are often mislabeled.

Does it work?
- Unknown Muscle, fat loss or strength in people: no published human trial found.
- Animal Rats: in castrated rats it restored muscle mass and strength and prevented bone loss, with only partial effects on the prostate. R2 It was well absorbed by mouth in rats. R7
- Human Detection: it has been identified in doping-control urine samples. R11, R12
Is it safe?
- Unknown No controlled human safety data.
- UNVERIFIED Vision: yellow-tinted vision and slow night adaptation are commonly reported by users. The often-repeated explanation (a metabolite acting in the retina) could not be traced to a primary source.
- Human Class risks: SARMs as a group are linked in case reports to cholestatic liver injury and in trials to testosterone suppression; no andarine-specific human data were found. R3, R4 UNVERIFIED for andarine specifically.
- Human Mislabeling: andarine was among the SARMs found in products bought online, and many products did not match their labels. R13
- FDA warns SARMs are linked to liver injury, heart attack and stroke risk, psychosis and infertility. R5
Gray-market vials: extra risks
A gray-market vial has no quality control and no guarantee of identity, strength or sterility. We test retail vials blind under the Open Peptide Standard; see /tests/. A passing test covers one batch on one date and does not mean the compound is safe.
Is it legal?
- US: not FDA-approved; no Drugs@FDA application found (openFDA searched Oct 27, 2026).
- FDA: FDA says SARMs cannot be legally marketed as dietary supplements and are unapproved drugs; it has issued warning letters to sellers. R5
- Compounding: not on FDA's 503A or 503B bulk-substance category lists and not on FDA's compounding safety-risk page. R8, R9, R10
- Sport: WADA 2026 S1.2 names it as a prohibited SARM, banned at all times R6.
