AZD5004 (elecoglipron, ECC5004): what the evidence says

At a glance

What it is: Caution Not a peptide. Elecoglipron is a once-daily oral small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist taken without food or fluid restrictions, from AstraZeneca and Eccogene. It is listed here only because it is sold alongside research peptides. R1

What the evidence says: Human in the VISTA phase 2 trial (310 adults with obesity or overweight, no diabetes), weight at week 26 fell 2.6% to 10.5% depending on dose vs 0.6% with placebo. R1 A phase 1 study found food did not meaningfully change blood levels. R2

Biggest risks: GI effects (nausea, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting); 25% of VISTA participants did not complete assigned treatment. R1
